After watching the movie "The Fighter" with Mark Wahlberg Meaghan felt the desire to take up boxing. Not knowing much about the different combat sports, a google search led her to a near by Thai Boxing gym in East London. After one class she was hooked and tried multiple disciplines like BJJ, wrestling, Capoeira and boxing. She took a liking to specifically Muay Thai & Boxing and later on went to compete. At the time living abroad in England she did not have much opportunity to pursue this new passion so decided to move back to Canada and become a certified personal trainer. She still juggles her original career of doing hair at Shag salon in downtown Calgary, teaching at gyms across the city, personal training and fight training all while studying her nutrition certification. Her love for the sport and wanting to help people change and achieve their health goals fuels her through the days. She loves travelling abroad to top gyms as part of developing herself as a fighter and trainer. She is still an active amateur fighter with20 fights and dreams of going pro in the near future. Her story of starting a martial art and completely changing her lifestyle for the better close to 30 years of age should be motivation that anyone can do it! With today's comparison to many unrealistic things you see online, she believes in doing real workouts, with real people and get better bit by bit. It is not about a 6 week challenge, it's a commitment to yourself to be better for life.
